Road Trips & Destinations

Some journeys stay with you. Find inspiring places and thoughtful advice for planning campervan travel around the UK and further afield.

THE CAMPERVAN GUIDEBOOKDESTINATIONS / EXPLORE

Explore ideas for touring Britain and Europe, with a focus on thoughtful routes, beautiful locations and practical campervan planning.

UK escapes

Coastal roads, national parks, historic towns and countryside stops provide excellent opportunities for both short breaks and longer tours.

European touring

Build routes around realistic driving days, ferry crossings, tolls, environmental zones, overnight stops and the places you actually want to experience.

Plan at your own pace

Allow time for weather, spontaneous diversions and quieter days. Detailed itineraries and route maps are in development.

Plan the experience, not just the mileage

A satisfying campervan journey is built around the stops as much as the roads between them. Choose a handful of places you genuinely want to explore, then leave space for slow mornings, coastal walks, local food and changes in the weather. Long driving days can make a beautiful route feel like an endurance event; a few well-chosen bases usually make a better holiday.

  • Choose your anchors: pick the towns, landscapes or activities that make the journey worth doing.
  • Check the practical route: consider vehicle height, weight, narrow roads, parking restrictions, ferries and any charges.
  • Book key nights where necessary: popular destinations and school holidays can limit spontaneous choices.
  • Plan for the unexpected: allow for weather, vehicle checks, late arrivals and a genuinely restful day.

Before you set off

Check your tyres, fluids, lights and safety equipment, then confirm the rules for parking or overnight stays at each location. A place to park is not always a place where sleeping overnight is permitted. For longer trips, keep your documentation, insurance, breakdown cover and overseas driving requirements in order.

Make the most of our Campsites & Stopovers section when choosing places to stay, and use the Campervan Essentials Checklist to prepare the van before leaving home.
